This Latin American classic dessert combines a fluffy sponge cake soaked in three types of milk and topped with whipped cream. Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 5 large eggs (separated)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ⅓ cup whole milk

For the Milk Mixture:

  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • ¾ cup heavy cream

For the Topping:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Fresh fruit (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour and baking powder. Set aside.
  3. Beat egg yolks with ¾ cup sugar until pale and thick. Stir in milk and vanilla.
  4. Gently mix in dry ingredients.
  5. In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until soft peaks form. Add remaining sugar and beat until stiff peaks.
  6. Fold egg whites into the batter gently until combined.
  7. Pour into prepared pan and bake 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool cake, then poke holes all over with a fork.
  9. Whisk evaporated milk, condensed milk, and cream. Pour evenly over the cake.
  10. Cover and chill for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  11. Whip cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until stiff peaks form. Spread over cake.
  12. Garnish with fruit, slice, and serve chilled.
