Description

A warm, spiced gingerbread cake that’s perfect for the holidays, easy to make, and delicious served hot or cold.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves.
  3. In another bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar together until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the molasses and eggs to the butter mixture and mix well.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the hot water, mixing until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Allow to cool before serving.

Notes

Serve with cream or ice cream for added delight. Use room temperature ingredients for better mixing.
