- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons ground ginger
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup hot water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves.
- In another bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add the molasses and eggs to the butter mixture and mix well.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the hot water, mixing until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow to cool before serving.
Notes
Serve with cream or ice cream for added delight. Use room temperature ingredients for better mixing.
