Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) and grease a 9×9 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mash the ripe bananas until smooth.
  3. Stir in melted butter and brown sugar until well combined.
  4. Add cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and salt, mixing well.
  5. Fold in flour and baking powder until just combined, then stir in chocolate chips if using.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean.
  8. Let cool before cutting into squares and serve.

Notes

For best results, use very ripe bananas. Avoid overmixing once flour is added. Check for doneness at 20 minutes.
