Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 175 °C (350 °F). Line a 9×13-inch (23×33 cm) pan with parchment or lightly grease it.
  2. In a large bowl, stir the melted butter and sugar until smooth.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the cocoa, flour, salt, and baking powder.
  5. Fold the dry mix into the wet mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  6. If using, stir in the chocolate chips.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 25–30 minutes, until the top is set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Let the brownies cool in the pan before lifting them out and cutting into squares.
