- 1.5 tsp baking powder
- 1.5 tsp baking soda
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- โ cup light brown sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 large eggs
- โ cup vegetable oil
- โ cup buttermilk

- ยพ cup cocoa powder
- 2 tsp instant coffee
- ยพ cup boiling water
- 1 cup granulated sugar (for caramel sauce)
- 5 tbsp unsalted butter
- ยฝ cup heavy cream (warmed up)
- ยพ tsp salt (for caramel sauce)
- 1ยฝ tsp vanilla (for caramel sauce)
- 200g dark chocolate
- 8 oz cream cheese
- โ cup cocoa powder (for frosting)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- ยฝ cup salted caramel sauce (from above)
- 1 cup heavy cream (cold)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, mix the eggs, vegetable oil, buttermilk, sour cream, cocoa powder, and instant coffee.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix well.
- Slowly stir in the boiling water until well blended.
- Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- For the salted caramel sauce, heat 1 cup granulated sugar in a saucepan until melted. Add the butter and stir.
- Slowly pour in the warmed cream, whisk until smooth, then stir in the salt and vanilla.
- For the frosting, melt the dark chocolate. Beat the cream cheese until smooth, then add cocoa powder, powdered sugar, and the salted caramel sauce, mixing well.
- Fold in the melted chocolate and cold heavy cream until combined.
- Assemble the cake: place one layer on a plate, frost with caramel frosting, drizzle with caramel, add the second layer, and frost the top and sides.
Notes
Make sure all ingredients are at room temperature for better mixing. Let the caramel sauce melt slowly to avoid burning.
