Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter (softened)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • ยฝ teaspoon vanilla
  • ยฝ teaspoon baking soda
  • ยฝ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ยฝ cup sour cream
  • 3 cups flour
  • For the frosting:
  • ยฝ cup butter (softened)
  • 4 oz. cream cheese (softened)
  • 3 ยฝ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) and line a pan with parchment.
  2. In a bowl, beat 1 cup butter and 1 cup sugar until light.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing in ยฝ teaspoon vanilla.
  4. Stir in ยฝ cup sour cream.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix 3 cups flour, ยฝ teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon baking powder, and ยฝ teaspoon salt.
  6. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until you have a soft dough.
  7. Chill the dough for 30 minutes.
  8. Roll the dough to ยผ inch thick on a floured surface.
  9. Cut shapes and place on the pan.
  10. Bake for 8โ€“10 minutes, until the cookies look set but remain soft.
  11. Let cookies cool on a rack.
  12. For frosting, beat ยฝ cup butter and 4 oz. cream cheese until smooth.
  13. Add 3 ยฝ cups powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat until smooth.
  14. Spread frosting on cooled cookies.

Notes

Store frosted cookies in a cool place, using an airtight box. They can last 3-5 days. For freezing, store plain cookies for up to 2 months.
