Description

A cozy hot drink combining rich chocolate, coffee, and a splash of peppermint with your choice of spirit.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup milk (whole or plant milk)
  • 1 shot espresso or 1/2 cup strong coffee
  • 1 to 2 tbsp chocolate syrup
  • 1/4 to 1/2 tsp peppermint extract
  • 1 to 2 tbsp cocoa powder (optional)
  • 1 to 1.5 oz rum, vodka, or coffee liqueur
  • Whipped cream for topping
  • Crushed candy cane or cocoa for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat the milk in a pot or microwave until hot, but not boiling.
  2. Brew the espresso or make strong coffee.
  3. Put chocolate syrup and optional cocoa powder in a mug.
  4. Pour the hot coffee into the mug and stir until the chocolate melts.
  5. Add the peppermint extract, stir, and taste.
  6. Pour in the hot milk and stir.
  7. Add the rum or vodka and stir once more.
  8. Top with whipped cream and sprinkle crushed candy cane on top.

Notes

For a non-alcoholic version, skip the spirit and add a little more chocolate. For vegan, use plant milk and dairy-free cream.
