Description

A soft chocolate roll cake resembling a log, perfect for holiday gatherings and special occasions.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for filling)
  • 1 cup chocolate ganache
  • Chocolate shavings or decorations

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) and grease a jelly roll pan.
  2. In a bowl, beat the eggs and granulated sugar together until thick and pale.
  3. Sift together flour, cocoa powder, and salt; gently fold into the egg mixture.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  5. Bake for about 12-15 minutes until the cake springs back when touched.
  6. Once baked, turn the cake out onto a clean kitchen towel dusted with powdered sugar. Roll it up gently and let it cool.
  7. In another bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  8. Unroll the cooled cake, spread the whipped cream mixture over it, then roll it back up.
  9. Place the rolled cake seam-side down on a serving plate.
  10. Frost the outside with chocolate ganache, create bark-like textures, and decorate as desired.
  11. Chill before serving.

Notes

Use a sharp, warm knife for cutting the cake for clean slices. Store covered in the fridge for 2-3 days.
