Description

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot brewed coffee
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 8 oz dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, combine the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  4. Carefully stir in the hot coffee until the batter is smooth.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool completely.
  6. For the frosting, heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan until just boiling. Pour over the chopped dark chocolate and let sit for a minute. Stir until smooth and stir in powdered sugar.
  7. Once the cake is cool, spread the frosting on top and around the sides.
