Description

This creamy apple custard impossible pie features tender apples and a self-forming crust, making it a delightful dessert that’s easy to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup Bisquick baking mix
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Pinch kosher salt
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar (for topping)
  • Extra cinnamon or nutmeg (for topping, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and butter a 9-inch pie dish or pan. Optionally, dust with flour.
  2. Peel, core, and thinly slice apples. Layer evenly in the bottom of the pie dish.
  3. Whisk together melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla until smooth and slightly frothy.
  4. Stir in Bisquick, milk, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until just combined.
  5. Pour custard batter over apples in the pie dish, distributing evenly.
  6. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon sugar and a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg over the top.
  7. Bake for 45-55 minutes, until the top is golden and center is set.
  8. Let pie cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.

Notes

For best results, use firm apples and let eggs come to room temperature for a smoother custard.
