Description

A luxurious breakfast featuring creamy custard-soaked bread topped with a crunchy caramel layer, reminiscent of a classic dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices of brioche or French bread
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for caramelizing)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
  2. Dip each slice of bread into the custard mixture, ensuring both sides are soaked, and place them in a baking dish.
  3. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Bake the soaked bread for about 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and set.
  6. Sprinkle 1/4 cup of granulated sugar over the top of the baked French toast.
  7. Using a kitchen torch, caramelize the sugar until it forms a crispy crust.
  8. Let it sit for a minute before serving.
  9. Serve warm and enjoy your luxurious breakfast!

Notes

For a twist, add a hint of orange zest or cinnamon to the custard mix for extra flavor. You can also substitute the sugar with brown sugar for a deeper caramel flavor.
