Ingredients

  • 1 box Brownie mix
  • 1/2 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup Cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1/2 cup Sour cream
  • 1/2 cup Hot coffee or water
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 cups Powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup Cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Milk (or as needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a cupcake pan with liners.
  2. Mix the brownie mix, all-purpose flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and baking powder in a large bowl.
  3. Add the melted butter, eggs, sour cream, and hot coffee (or water) to the dry ingredients. Mix until everything is combined and smooth.
  4. Spoon the batter into the prepared cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
  5. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cupcakes to cool completely before frosting them.
  7. Beat the softened butter in a bowl for the chocolate buttercream until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, salt, and milk, mixing until smooth and fluffy.
  8. Spread or pipe the buttercream on top of the cooled cupcakes.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature ingredients and avoid overmixing the batter.
