Ingredients

  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a large baking sheet (typically 18×13 inches).
  2. Whisk together flour, sugar, 1/2 cup cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Melt 1/2 cup butter in a saucepan over medium heat, then stir in the water and bring to a boil. Pour the hot mixture into the dry ingredients and mix well.
  4. Add buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth. Pour the batter into the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Melt 1/2 cup butter for the frosting and mix in 1/2 cup cocoa powder. Stir in powdered sugar and milk until smooth.
  7. Spread the frosting evenly over the cooled cake.
  8. Let it set for a few minutes before cutting into squares and serving.
